Vatican Silver Medal Pope John XXIII Anno III St. Gregory Barbadigo Canonization

  • $ 199.99

Description: A beautiful silver medal issued by the Vatican and still in its original box. This papal state silver medal has the image of the bust of Pope John XXIII wearing a camauro and facing left on the obverse. John XXIII was pope in the period 1958-1963. The reverse shows the images of St. Gregory Barbadigo, seated in his library, working on a manuscript. The obverse shows the bust of the pope wearing a camauro and decorated collar facing left with the inscription "IOANNES.XXIII.PONT.MAX.AN.III along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust and the name "GIAMPAOLI" in raised lettering under it. The reverse has a legend "SANCTVS GREGORIVS BARBADICVS" surrounding the image of St. Gregory Barbadigo, seated in his library, working on a manuscript with the notation "26-V; AN • D • MCMLX" in exergue. A beautiful original papal medal still in its original presentation box. The medal commemorates the beatification of George Barbadigo in 1761. The medal is nicely toned with remnants of luster and very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal has the notation "Z.986" stamped in it. A nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

The medal is in what I would characterize as uncirculated condition with uneven toning. The medal shows no wear, no appreciable scratching and minimum marking to the surface but shows darker spots especially to the fields of the obverse. The box it comes in is in very good condition with some staining and wear to the edges and corners. A nice medal, which would make a great addition to your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of the piece.
