1835 Geneva Reformation Tercentenary Celebration Bronze Cast Medal Busts of Calvin, Viret, de Beze, Farel By Jean Antoine Bovy
Description: An about uncirculated nicely toned 1835 cast bronze large and heavy medal. This is a Geneva reformation medal commemorating 300 years anniversary of the reformation. The obverse shows the seal of Geneva connecting four busts of the Swiss Reformers: John Calvin, Pierre Viret, Theodore Beza, & William Farel. The circular inscription reads: JVBIL REFORMAT RELIG GENEV TERT SEC CELEBR AVG D XXIII AN MDCCCXXXV, which translated means ‘The Celebration of the 300th Jubilee of the Religious Reformation in Geneva 1835.’ The reverse shows two women symbolizing Faith & Reason, support a Bible on a lectern beneath a radiant dove. The circular inscription reads: BIBLIA FIDEI ET RATIONI RESTITVTA, which translated means ‘The Restitution of a Rational Biblical Faith,’ and signed A. BOVY INV ET F. This is a very large medal, is rather heavy, and considered a scarce medal in bronze. It is absolutely great looking and has a beautifully handsome patina. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

It has some scratches and some minor nicks to the surface. Other than that the piece is problem free. Please view photos for additional condition information.
