1890 Bronze Medal By Bianchi Vatican/Papal State Leo XII AN XIII Showing Saint Peter Chained to Rock

Description: A nice bronze medal issued by the Vatican in 1890 to commemorate the 13th year of pope Leo XIII papacy. The high relief medal shows the bust of pope Leo XIII facing left on the obverse with the legend "LEO XIII.PONT.MAXAN.XIII" surrounding it. The medal was designed by Bianchi and shows the image of Saint Peter chained to rock on the reverse surrounded with the legend "TE.VINDICE.DEVS.VINCVLA.CORVAANT.ADLIBERTATEM." along the edge. There is also the legend "APOSTOLICAE.POTESTATIS" above St. Peter's head. The reverse also shows the date MDCCCXC under Saint Peter. The medal is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. It is a truly nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Condition: The medal is in choice extremely fine to about uncirculated condition. The medal has minimum wear to the high point, no appreciable scratching or dings to the surface. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. It has some minor scratches to the surface and some minor dings to the edge. These are minor and do not distract from the medal's beauty.
