1914 Portrait Silver Medal Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin Airship Bombing in WWI

Description: A round portrait silver medal depicting the bust of Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin, facing slightly right, in raised relief on the obverse with the legend "GRAF FERD. v. ZEPPELIN" along the edge surrounding the bust. The reverse shows a Zeppelin Airship flying right, bombing various fortifications below. The reverse has the legend "UNSER ZEPPELIN IN TÄTIGKEIT IM FELDZUG 1914" which translates to "Our Zeppelin at work in the field,1914" surrounding the airship along the edge. The medal has a plain edge with the words 950 SILBER stamped in the edge. The medal is uncirculated with no observable wear but shows considerable hairlines in the field. It is beautiful and shows great art work. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Origin: Germany by Mayer & Wilhelm (Stuttgart).

Weight and Size: The medal is ~33.5 mm in diameter, ~2 mm in thickness at the edge, and weighs ~14.7 grams.

Maker: Mayer & Wilhelm (Stuttgart) Mint.

Marks: Marked M&W. ST. and has the marked 950 SILBER stamped on the edge.

Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and is uncirculated. It is extremely lustrous and proof-like, with a pleasing frosting to the devices and a light iridescence. The medal shows a fair number of hairlines in the fields as can be seen in the photos. These are difficult to see when looking at the medal under normal viewing condition but are definitely there. It shows no wear or signs of circulation. It shows no wear but hairlines in the fields. All in all, a great portrait medal in super condition after being around for over 100 years.
