Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1939. This is the Society of Medalists nineteenth issue medal. The obverse of the medal has the image of a mother and child cowering before the four horsemen of the apocalypse above and a gas mask in front of her with a castle and ancient ruins in the background. The obverse has the legend "THE OLD WORLD 1939" in exergue. There is also the notation E. McCARTAN (c) in the lower right field. The reverse shows the image of the mother with the child in 1930s attire with high rises or skyscrapers in the background and a forest with a radiant sun above.
