1964 Bronze Medal Papal/Roman States Commemorating Pope Paul VI Visit to the Holy Land By Giuseppe Pirrone
Description: A nice size bronze medal issued by the Papal/Roman State to commemorate the visit of Pope Paul VI to the holy land in 1964. Pope Paul VI visited the Holy Land in January 4-6, 1964. The medal, which has beautiful raised design, shows the depiction of Jesus resurrection on the obverse with the legend "PAVLVS.PP.VI+PEREGRINVS IN.TERRA.SANCTA+" along the edge. The Obverse is also signed by the medalist Giuseppe Pirrone. The reverse has the design depicting the Magi in front of the baby Christ being held-up by the Virgin Mary and is surrounded by the legend "CHRISTO.+.ECCLESIAM.+.OFFERT.+.4-.6.1.1964.+." This is a great looking medal of a very nice design by Giuseppe Pirrone and represents the official Vatican issue of the pope's visit. It has a nice brown coloring and is about uncirculated or better. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. It is a truly nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection.
