Beautiful 1885 Italian Papal State Choice Uncirculated Commemorative Medal Papal Ruling in Caroline Conflict Pope Leo XIII Anno X

Description: A beautiful commemorative copper medal from the Italian Papal States. This is the medal commemorating the pope Leo XII ruling in the Caroline conflict between Germany and Spain in 1885 and was struck the same year during his times. The medal depicts the image of the bust of pope Leo XIII facing left on the obverse with the legend "LEO.XII.PONT.MAX.ANNO.X" surrounding the image. The reverse shows the image of crowned Virgin Mary? holding a tall cross and is surrounded by two women holding shields. The image is surrounded by the legend "CONTROVERSIA.INSVLIS.KAROLINIS.EX.AEQVITATE.DIREMPTA" along the edge. The bottom of the obverse has the date "MDCCCLXXXV" or 1885 in Roman numerals. There is also the legend "PACIS.ARBITRA.ET.CONCILIATRIX" in exergue. The medal was designed by F. Bianchi. It weighs ~39 grams and measures ~43 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful medal with well done details and nicely toned throughout. It is beautiful and has a nice portrait of the Pontiff. Condition: The medal is in choice uncirculted condition with no observable wear. The details of the medal are extremely well expressed and preserved. The medal has nice toning throughout. It has a nice portrait of the Pontiff with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. It would make a nice addition to your collection.
