German Bavaria Good Behavior and Persistent Diligence Medal Girls Education Institute Nymphenburg

  • $ 77.77

Description: A nice heavy metal German medal from Bavaria. The medal was issued by the Girls Education Institute of Nymphenburg for good behavior and persistent diligence. The medal has a silvery color and weighs about 22.8 grams and is 37.5 mm in diameter. The medal shows the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus on the obverse. Mary is wearing a crown and holding a scepter in one hand and the baby in the other and has an orb on her lap. The high relief image is surrounded by the legend "PATRONA BAVARIAE ORA PRO NOBIS" which translates to "Bavaria my patroness, pray for us." We believe the obverse represents an old design by medalist Drentwett and is marked as such. The reverse has the legend "Fur Wohlverhalten und Beharrlichen Fleiss" which translates to "for good behavior and persistent diligence" in the center with the legend 'KGL. MADCHEN-ERZIEHUNGS-INSTITUT ZU NYMPHENBURG" which translates to "Girls Education Institute to Nymphenburg" along the edge. We are not certain what type of metal is used for the medal but we feel it is rather heavy for its size to be white metal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. Obviously this is a medal that was awarded to the girls at the Girls Education Institute of Nymphenburg for good behavior and diligence. It is a truly nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
