Large Bronze US Mint Medal Zachary Taylor Indian Peace Medal Dated 1849 UNC
Description: A nice large and heavy gold or brass colored bronze Indian Peace medal dated 1849. This is the US mint restrike of the Indian Peace medal issued in 1849. The medal shows the bust of President Zachary Taylor facing left with the date 1849 under it on the obverse. The obverse has the legend "ZACHARY TAYLOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES" along the edge above the president’s bust. The reverse shows two hands shaking (presumably a white man' and Indian man's) with crossed peace pipe and tomahawk above and the Legend "PECE AND FRIENDSHIP" interspersed within the design. This is a United States Mint restrike of the medal, which was designed by Henry K. Brown for the obverse and John Reich for the reverse. The edge of the medal is unmarked. This is the US Mint medal number 112 and is listed by Julian as IP-27b. The medal comes enclosed in the original plastic envelop, is wrapped in paper and comes with its original box marked 112. A great looking and very interesting Indian Peace medal to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
