May 1961 Large Bronze Medal The Society Of Medalists 63rd Issue By Adolph Block Original Box and Literature

  • $ 77.77

Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1961. This is the Society of Medalists sixty-third issue medal. The medal which comes in its original box with the original literature/pamphlet has the image of Pilgrims landing on the shore of America wi9th a ship in the background. The image has the legend "THEY FOUND FREEDOM TO WORSHIP GOD" on the obverse. The reverse shows the image of armed patriots with a church and another building in the background and with the legend "ARME IN THE HOLY CAUSE OF LIBERTY" NEAR THE TOP. According to the pamphlet this medal is to reflect the fact that people will give a lot to be free, such as all the worldly goods given up by the Pilgrims in their quest for religious freedom to life given by the patriots in their quest for political freedom. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists 63rde Issue- May 1961 Adolf Block SC; Medallic Art Company N.Y. Bronze." A great looking and very interesting medal to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: May 1961.

Origin: New York, USA.

Artist: Adolf Block.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~182 grams, is ~72 millimeters in diameter, and ~4 millimeters thick at the edge.

Maker: Medallic Art Company of New York.

Marks: Marked "The Society of Medalists 63rde Issue- May 1961 Adolf Block SC; Medallic Art Company N.Y. Bronze" along the edge of the medal. There is the name A. Block with a circled c for copyright and the year 1961 on the obverse under the foot of the pilgrim on the obverse.

Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and if it was a coin I would grade it mint state. The medal has no observable wear with minimum surface marks or scratches. It has what I view as beautiful rich dark brassy coloring and is problem free. The box and the pamphlet are in relatively good condition with some light soiling to the box and damage to all four corners of both the top and bottom. There is also a small sticker on the exterior of the box used by the original owner to tag it with information about the issue. The pamphlet also shows signs of some handling but is still intact and clean. A great medal to add to your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of the piece.
