Post 1891 Medal Memorial Token General William T Sherman Birth and Death VF
Description: A nice small brass medal or medalette, that is holed for suspension, depicting the bust of general William Tecumseh Sherman on the obverse with the legend "GENERAL WILLIAM TECUMSEH SHERMAN" surrounding it along the edge. The reverse has the legend "BORN FEB. 8.1820 DIED FEB..14.1891" within a wreath. Both obverse and reverse have a dentilated border. General Sherman is the famous American soldier, businessman, educator, and author, who served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The medal is nicely toned and is in very fine condition. It is holed for suspension and has a plain edge. It is 23.5 mm in diameter and weighs slightly over 6 grams. Condition: The medal is in very fine condition with all of its details being still preserved but exhibiting wear, especially to the general's clothing details. The token is toned and its fields are dark with surface marks. The medal shows wear to the lettering, wear to the higher points of the design, and several scratches in the fields all of which can be seen in the photos. The medalette has embedded soiling within the letters spelling the general's name on the obverse as well as in his facial details especially the beard.
