Description: A nice bronze uniface medal with a hanging loop. The medal shows the Jefferson Davis Memorial erected in Richmond in 1907 to commemorate the President of the Confederate States of America in the period 1861-1865. The obverse of the medal shows the memorial consisting of the 65 foot tall Doric column topped by a bronze figure called Vindicatrix, with thirteen columns behind it and the statue of Jefferson Davis in front with his arm raised. There are branches to the left and right of the column with the one on the left having the date 1861 and the one on the right having the date 1865. There is also a crossed branches below the memorial. The design is surrounded by the legend "TO JEFFERSOIN DAVIS PRESIDENT OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA" along the edge of medal. The medal has a plain rim and the back is marked by the maker in a circular fashion "THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK .N.J". This is a medal to commemorate the dedication of the memorial in Richmond Virginia in 1907. An interesting historical medal in good condition, which would make a nice addition to any collection.
