Beautiful Vatican Bronze Medal Pope Julius III Bust Right Restoration of England to The Catholic Church Ann V, Early Restrike
Description: A scarce early official restrike papal states bronze medal with the image of the bust of Pope Julius III, on the obverse, facing right. Julius III was pope in the period 1550-1555. The reverse shows the images of the Pope raises suppliant England. On one side stand Philip and Mary; on the other Cardinal Pole and Charles V; to the left a bow and arrows. The obverse shows the bust of the pope wearing pontifical robes facing right with the inscription "IVLIVS TERTIVS*PONT*MAXAN*A*V*" along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust. The reverse has a legend "ANGLIA RESVRGES" on top of the image along the edge and the legend "VT NVNC/NOVISSIMO/DIE" in three lines which translates to “ England, thou shalt rise again, as now, at the last day”. The medal was issued in year 5 of pope Julius III papacy (1554) to commemorate the restoration of England to the Catholic Church. A beautiful and fairly unusual artistic design for papal medals. A very scarce official early re-strike. The medal is uncirculated and is nicely toned in a rich brown coloring with very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. This is a rare nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The medal is marked 5th year of Julius III papacy 1554, this example was most likely struck in the mid 1700 to the early 1800.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~54.1 grams, is ~47 millimeters in diameter, and ~4 millimeters thick at the edge.

Condition: The medal is in about uncirculated or better condition. The medal shows minimum wear if any to the high point, some scratching, and a minimum marking to the surface with dark spots on the obverse on the pope's neck and collar as well as in the field in front of his face. These do not distract from the medal's beauty. The edge of the medal is plain and is unmarked. A nice medal, which would make a great addition to your collection.
