Very Nice 1738 Large & Heavy Geneva Switzerland Bronze Cast Medal Recognition of King Louis XV of France Peace Mediation Efforts
Description: An about uncirculated nicely toned 1738 cast bronze large and heavy medal. This is a Geneva medal commemorating the efforts of King Louis XV of France id mediating peace in the city state of Geneva Switzerland. The obverse shows Peace and Justice, in the form of two maidens, at an altar, with what we believe is war, again in the form of a woman, dead at their feet. The scene is surrounded by the words "SALUS REIPUBLICAE" (Salvation of Republic) and the letters I.D.F. at the foot of peace. The reverse has 8 lines of 8-line thanks to French King for his efforts in mediating the peace with the date 1738 in roman numerals in the bottom all surrounded with oak leaves all along the edge. Condition: I would grade the medal as about uncirculated or much better with all the details being intact and the high point with minimum wear if any. The medal is nicely toned. It has some scratches and some minor nicks to the surface. There is also a couple of minor stains at the bottom of the reverse and under the E on the obverse.
