1939 Egypt Silver Coin Ten Piastres King Farouk 1st Wearing Fez Facing Left AU+

  • $ 77.77

Description: A beautiful and lustrous about uncirculated 1358 AH or 1939 AD Egyptian ten piastres silver coin. The coin depicts the bust of King Farouk the first (who ruled Egypt in the period 1936-1952) facing left. He is wearing a uniform and a fez and has the words Farouk the first King of Egypt along the edge on the obverse. The reverse has the words "Al Mamlkah Al Mesryah" (Kingdom of Egypt) in the center in beautiful calligraphy with the date in years AD (1939) and AH (1358), the denomination above it and surrounded with a tasseled wreath. This is a very nice coin in nice condition since this was heavily circulated coin at the time. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1939.

Mint: Egypt, actually these coins were minted in one pf two mints in the United Kingdom.

Size and weight: This is a 10 piastres, which is ~33 mm in diameter and weighs ~14 grams of 83.3% silver. The coin has a reeded edge with the central beaded portion, which is an unusual feature in world coins and makes the coin very difficult to counterfeit.

References: It is KM #367.

Condition: I would grade this coin as nice about uncirculated. The coin is lustrous with minimum surface blemishes. It has minimum wear, if any. It has a few scratches and minor bag marks. It is problem free and is worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
