Rare Silver Coin 1861 AD-1277 AH Year 2 Egyptian Five Qirsh Ottoman Sultan Abdul Aziz

  • $ 377.77

Description: A nice fine or much better 1861 AD (1277 AH year 2 of Abdul Aziz's reign) Egyptian, while under Ottoman Rule, 5 Qirsh silver coin. This silver coin is rather rare and relatively uncommon. The coin depicts the tughra of Abdul Aziz (the Ottoman Sultan, in Turkey, at the time) on the obverse, with a rose to its right and denomination below it. The reverse has the Legend "Duribah Fee Misr 1277" and shows that it was struck in the 2nd year of Abdul Aziz's reign, as indicated by the number 2 on top of the "Beh" in the word "Duribah", translating to 1861. The year 1277 AH ( 1861 AD) is the year when Abdul Aziz became sultan. The coin is nicely toned. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1861.

Mint: Egypt.

Size and Weight: This is a five Qirsh measures about 25 mm and weighs ~6.7 grams of 0.833 silver.

References: It is KM #254.

Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice fine or much better with all the details being well preserved and readable. The coin is a bit matte in appearance with no luster but still retains nice eye appeal. It is much better than the scan shows. It does have minor scratches. some bag marks, and wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. Please see photo for additional condition information.
