Rare Silver Egyptian 1912 Five Piastres Coin Ottoman Sultan Mahmud V 1327AH/Yr4 AU+

Description: A great looking about uncirculated or much better rare silver coin from Egypt. This is a five piastres from the reign of Muhammad V the Ottoman Sultan who ruled the Muslim world in the period 1909-1914. The coin shows the sultan's toughra, a rose to the right of the toughra, the denomination below it and then a spray of flowers below all of that with stars above on the obverse. The reverse says Duribah Fi Misr (struck in Egypt) with Muhammad accession year of 1327 AH, an indication that the coin was struck in the 4th year of his reign, all of which is surrounded with a wreath and having three stars on top. It is KM-308 and weighs 7 grams of 0.833 silver. It measures approximately 26 mm in diameter. The coin has a reeded rim. Date: 1912 AD - 1327AH 4th year of Muhammad V reign.

Mint: Egypt. Actually these coins were struck in Birmingham England as evidenced by the H on the bottom of the obverse.

Size and Weight: This is a 5 piastres, weighs 7 grams and is ~26 mm in diameter.

Condition: I would grade this coin as about uncirculated or much better with all the details being extremely well preserved. The coin has dark staining or soiling along the edges of the obverse and reverse which is the reason we grade it as AU instead of straight Uncirculated. The coin has very few scratches and bag marks. It still retains quite a bit of its original mint luster. The coin has no observable problems and shows very little wear if any. It is much better than the photos suggest. The coin has excellent eye appeal and is beautiful. Please see photos for additional condition information.
