1803 Copper Commemorative Medal First Council Canton of Vaud Switzerland By Bertrand Andrieu Eagle and Large Building Beautiful Extremely Fine
Description: A nice commemorative copper medal from Switzerland. The medal, which is dated 1803, commemorated the First Council of the Canton of Vaud Set up by Napoleon. The medal depicts the image of an eagle with open wings holding an open book in its talons and having rays behind it on the obverse. There is the legend "LA SUISSE PACIFIEE ET REORGANISEE" surrounding the eagle along the edge and the name Andrieu F. below the eagle. The open book has the legend "ACTE DE MEDIATION" written on it. The reverse shows a large building having the words "LIBERTE ET PATRIE" on top of the entrance and the legend indicating the medal commemorates the first Assembly of the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud surrounding the building along the edge with the date below it. The date is XIV Averil MDCCCIII for April 14, 1803. The edge of the medal is plain and has no markings. A great looking and very interesting medal commemorating an important event in Swiss history to add to your collection.
