1881 Copper Medal Swiss Composer Jgnaz/Ignaz Heim Souvenir of Home Celebration
Description: A nice mint state 1881 medal depicting the bust of Jgnaz or Ignaz Heim the famous Swiss composer who died in 1880. The medal which is a souvenir by his home town Zurich Switzerland., celebrating and commemorating him in 1881. The medal depicts the bust of Ignaz Heim on the obverse within a circle with his name above and a wreath below him. The reverse depicts the image of an angel sitting on top of a mountain holding a wreath in her hand and leaning forward, all within a circle. There is the legend "ZUM ANDENKEN AN DIE HEIMFEIER" along the edge above the angel (translates to: As a Souvenir of the Home Celebration) and the word Zurich 1881 below the angel. The medal is large (48.5 mm) and weighs ~50.5 grams. It has a beautiful chocolate brown coloring with area of lighter copper brilliance still showing throughout. The medal has a plain edge. Condition: I would grade this medal as mint state. The medal has all of its details well preserved. It has no observable wear. It has a nice chocolate brown patina/color with areas showing the lighter copper coloring throughout. The medal has a minimum number of minor surface marks in the fields and is just great looking with very nice eye appeal. A nice commemorative medal to add to your collection.
