1899 Egypt 20 Qirsh Large Silver Coin Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II VF++

  • $ 137.77

Description: A nice good very fine 1293 AH year 24 of Sultan Abdul Hamid II reign, or 1899 AD, Egyptian twenty Qirsh (or pistres) silver coin. The coin depicts the tughra of Abdul Hamid the second with the denomination under it and a rose to its right all surrounded by branches and having two crossed quivers under it all. The reverse says "Duribah Fi Misr" or struck in Egypt with the number 24 over the "beh" in duribah (for 24th reginal year of Abdul-Hamid's reign) and the date 1293 AH under it for the year when Abdul-Hamid ascended the throne, all surrounded by branches and having three stars on top. Just a beautiful design, by Emil Weigand of Berlin Germany as evidenced by the "W" in the bottom of the obverse. A nice very fine coin with reeded edge. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1899.

Mint: Egypt.

Size and weight: This is a 20 Qirsh, weighs approximately 27.7 grams of 0.833 silver and is about 40 mm in diameter.

References: It is KM #296.

Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice very fine or better. The coin has its details relatively well preserved and has nice eye appeal. The coin is beautiful and is nicely toned, especially along the branches. The coin shows honest wear throughout commensurate with its age and circulated state. The coin has scratches, bag marks, and even wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. It has some minor dings along the edgebut nothing of concern. Please see photo for additional condition information.
