1900 Silver Papal Medal Leo XIII AN XXIII By Bianchi Holy Year Opening Holy Door

Description: A nice mint state silver medal issued by the Vatican in 1900 to commemorate the Holy Year and the opening of the Holy Door on the 23rd year of pope Leo XIII papacy. The high relief medal shows the bust of pope Leo XIII facing left on the obverse with the legend "LEO XIII.PONT.MAX.AN.XXIII" surrounding it. The medal was designed by Bianchi. The reverse of the medal shows the image of the pope standing in front of the holy wall with a hammer raised to it and people kneeling and with bowed heads surrounding it. The reverse has the legend "RECLVSI.CAELESTES.THESAVRI." along the edge surrounding the medal and "A.SACRO.MDCCC" (Sacred or Holy Year 1900) in exergue. The medal is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. It is graded by NGC as Mint State MS62 and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. A truly nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. A great historic Catholic piece to add to your collection.
