Description: A beautiful silver papal annual medal commemorating the inauguration of the new Calabrian Seminary in Rome. This is an architectural medal with the rendition of the building of the seminary on the reverse. This annual medal represents the year 10 medal of pope Pius 10 papacy and is listed in Piero De Luca's book as number 29 with a rarity index "R". The obverse, which is signed Bianchi, depicts the bust of the pope Pius X facing left with the legend "PIVS.X.PONT.MAX.ANNO.X" along the edge. The obverse has the inscription "BIANCHI" below the pontiff's bust. The reverse shows the image of the large new building of the seminary. There is the inscription "ALUMINS ECCLESIAR CALABRIAE INSTITUENDIS" which translates to "Founding of the seat for Calabrian disciples" in two lines above the building and the inscription "A.MCMXIII" (Year 1913) in exergue. The medal weighs ~36.5 grams and measures ~44 mm in diameter. The medal has a plain edge with no markings. This is a beautiful nicely toned medal with a nice portrait of the Pontiff. Mint: Rome.

Size and Weight: The Medal weighs ~36.5 grams and measures ~44 mm in diameter.

References: De Luca 29 and Mazio 872.

Condition: I would grade the medal as uncirculated condition with no observable wear and great eye appeal. The medal is toned on both obverse and reverse and along the edges with the center of the obverse retaining clarity and luster. It does have some minor blemishes but is in a well-preserved sate. The details of the medal are extremely well expressed and preserved. The medal has a nice portrait of the Pontiff with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. The details of the scene on the reverse including the details of building are also very well preserved and look great. It is rather dark along the edges of the reverse making the reading of the legend a bit difficult. A beautiful medal which is over 100 years old and still in great condition. It would make a nice addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
