1940 Medal Society Of Medalists 21st Issue Aesop's Fables Edmond Amateis MIB
Description: A nice large and heavy silverplated bronze medal from 1940. This is the Society of Medalists twenty first issue medal. The high relief medal shows a crowned hawk with a dead dove in its talons with the words "THE DOVES ELECT A HAWKK THEIR KING" along the edge surrounding the image. The reverse shows a dog at the edge of water looking at his reflection in the water with the words "LOSE NOT THE SUBSTANCE FOR THE SHADOW" along the edge surrounding the image. There is also the name "E, AMATEIS (c)" (For Edmond Amateis) below the dog on the reverse. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists Twenty First Issue-1940" and "Medallic Art Co. N.Y. Bronze". The medal comes in its original box of issue with a pamphlet explaining the medal by the artist. A great looking and very interesting medal, by one of America's top medalists to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Marks: Marked "The Society of Medalists Twenty First Issue-1940" and "Medallic Art Co. N.Y. Bronze" along the edge of the medal. There is the notation "E, AMATEIS (c)" below the sitting dog on the reverse.
Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and I would grade it mint state. The medal has no observable wear with minimum surface marks or scratches to the silverplating. It has what I view as beautiful light antiquing patina and is problem free. The box is in good condition with some light soiling and writing in black marker on the side indicating it is "1940 SPRING # 21". A great medal to add to your collection.
