Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1941. This is the Society of Medalists twenty third issue medal. The medal a mother with her child on the obvers with the words "PRO PATRIA" surrounding the image along the edge. The reverse shows the image of a chained Prometheus with a vulture pecking at his heart with the words "PRO HUMANITATE" surrounding the image and signed on the bottom of the image Joseph E. Renier (c). A great looking and very interesting medal to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~246 grams, is ~73 millimeters in diameter, and ~4 millimeters thick at the edge.

Maker: Medallic Art Company of New York.

Marks: Marked "THE SOCIETY OF MEDALISTS TWENTY THIRD ISSUE 1941-JOSEPH RENIER SCULPTOR; MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. BRONZE" along the edge of the medal. There is the name Joseph E. Renier (c) lower center of the reverse.

Condition: I would grade the medal as mint state uncirculated. The medal has no wear with minimum surface marks or scratches. It has a beautiful patina and a great look with high relief of the images. It would make a nice addition to your collection.
