1962 Pure Silver Medal William Penn & The Seal of The State Of Pennsylvania MIB
Description: Offered here is a nice mint state small and heavy pure silver medal depicting the bust of William Penn the founder of Pennsylvania and the city of Philadelphia in the 1600s on the obverse. The medal was issued in 1962 and was designed by Ralph J. Menconi. The medal displays bust of William Penn, in high relief, looking ahead on the obverse surrounded by the legend "WILLIAM PENN PENNSYLVANIA" along the edge. There is also the words "RALPH J. MENCONI (c) 1962.SAM" below the bust. The reverse has the image of the seal of the state of Pennsylvania surrounded by branches and having an eagle on top. The seal is surrounded by the legend "SEAL OF THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA" within a defined border along the edge. The medal has a plain edge with the words "MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. and .999+ PURE SILVER" stamped into it. There is also the number 3235 stamped into the edge. The medal comes in a small box, which is the original box of issue for the medal since it has the number 3235 printed on it and has the designation "MEDALIC ART Co. written into the lid. The medal was distributed by Presidential Art Medals Inc. of Englewood, Ohio. This is a small medal weighing ~3.6 grams of pure silver, which is currently worth $60 in melt and measure ~32 mm. Condition: I would grade this medal as mint state with all of its details being well preserved and having minimum surface markings. The box is also in very good condition with light soiling but is intact. The box has the word PENN written in blue ink on one side, obviously so that the previous owner could identify it.
