Sterling Proof Medal Maryland State House Bicentennial George Washington Resigns
Description: A nice proof sterling silver commemorative medal from the Franklin Mint. The medal which commemorates the bicentennial anniversary of the Maryland State House depicts the image of the State House on the obverse with the legend "MARYLAND STATE HOUSE BICENTENNIAL" above it along the edge on the obverse. The reverse, has a scene showing George Washington standing in front of the legislators with the legend "GERORGE WASHINGTON RESIGNSAS COMMANDER OF THE CONTINENTAL ARMY" along the edge surrounding the image. The medal has reflective proof fields on both sides and is marked Sterling with hallmarks at the edge. The edge is also reeded. Although not dated, it was most likely minted in 1972 to celebrate the Maryland State House bicentennial. The Maryland State House is the oldest state capitol in the United States that is still in use for legislative purposes. This is a nice size medal weighing ~25 grams of 0,925 silver and measure ~39 mm in diameter. A nice and interesting medal to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The medal is undated, but most likely it was minted in 1972-1976 when the Maryland State House reached its 200s anniversary.
