Vintage Austria Sterling Silver Medal St. George Slaying Dragon Safety in Storm

  • $ 87.77

Description:  A beautiful Austrian sterling silver medal in uncirculated condition. The piece which is a reproduction of medieval amulet or pendants is a thaler sized medal. It measures ~40 mm in diameter and weighs ~25 grams. The obverse of the medal shows St. George on horseback with a spear in hand slaying a dragon. The high relief design shows quite a bit of details and is very well done. There is the legend "S:GEORGIUS EQVITUM PATRONUS", which translates to "Saint George, patron saint of the knights" along the edge surrounding the image of St. George. There is also the name "BODLAK" below the dragon's feet. The reverse shows a ship in the storm with Jesus standing in the back of the ship and his disciples working the ship. The reverse has the words "IN TEMPESTATE SECRITAS", which translates to "Safety in the storm". The edge of the medal is plain with the mintmark ?, fineness 925, crescent moon and lettering AF in square. A great looking piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
