1312-28 Lightly Toned Silver Coin Venice Italy Grosso Giovanni Soranzo NGC AU58

Description: Beautiful hammered silver coin showing no date from Venice Italy. This is a Grosso from the times of Doge Giovanni Soranzo in the period of 1312-1328. The coin shows the Doge and St. Mark standing next to each other and holding staff with the letters DVX along the top of the staff and a star on each side. There is also the legend "IO• SVPANTIO • S • M • VENETI" surrounding the image on the obverse. The reverse shows Christ enthroned facing front. The reverse has the legend "IC/XC" in the field to the right and left of the image. The coin is undated but was issued during the period 1312-1328. The coin is much better than the photos suggest. The coin is graded NGC as (About Uncirculated) AU 58 and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. It has very nice eye appeal. It is Meyer 27 and Numista N#114099, weighs ~2.14 gm (as noted on the slab) and measures ~20 mm. The coin is beautiful and in nice state of preservation. Size and weight: This is a one Grosso that is ~20 mm in diameter and weighs ~2.14 grams of Silver.

Condition: The coin is graded by NGC as About Uncirculated AU 58 and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. It has minimum wear with very nice eye appeal. The coin still retains most of its details and shows minor surface marks such as scratches or bag marks. The coin is also a bit uneven in rounding. Other than that, the coin is problem free and has nice eye appeal. The coin is much better than the photos suggest. Note that NGC has the obverse in the back of the slab and the reverse in the front. In the first image the obverse is to the right of the image and the reverse to the left. Please see photos for additional condition information.
