1605 Copper Medal Pope Paul V AN XIIII Jesus Washing the Disciples Feet MS63BN
Description: A beautiful mint state papal copper medal from the 14th year of pope Paul V papacy. The medal which is dated year 14 of the pope papacy (1618) is a copper restrike most likely from the original die and is dating from most likely late 1700s shows the bust of the pontiff facing the front with the legend "PAVLVS.V.PONT.MAX." surrounding the bust along the edge with the notation "A.XIIII" below the pope's bust. The reverse shows a beautiful image of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples with the legend "TV DOMINVS • ET | MAGISTER" in exergue and the words "GASP | MOLA" inn the seat of the disciples. The medal has a beaded border on both sides with a plain edge. The medal measures ~25 mm in diameter and was designed by Gaspare Mola as engraver. The medal is graded MS63BN by PCGS and comes in a plastic slab so labeled. This is a beautiful nicely toned with rich brown coloring medal having a nice portrait of the Pontiff. Condition: The medal is graded as uncirculated mint state 63 Brown (MS63BN) by PCGS and comes in a [plastic holder so labeled. The medal has no observable wear and great eye appeal. The medal is darkly toned on both obverse and reverse in a rich brown coloring. The image of the pope is in high relief and is great looking with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. The details of the scene on the reverse including the details of Jesus and the disciples are also very well preserved and look great. The reverse shows marks of cracks in the original die which can be seen in the photos. A beautiful medal which is over 200 years old and still in great condition.
